The brief
Katr is a restaurant in Prague’s Old Town where guests grill their food at the table. It was the first place in the country to do it.
So the site has to explain what a guest is in for before it tries to sell the menu. And being in the centre of Prague, the restaurant gets locals and tourists alike.
The solution
The site is a single long page that a guest reads from top to bottom: what makes the place different, what’s cooked, what’s poured and what it looks like inside.
The menus are split the same way as at Demínka, which belongs to the same group. Gift vouchers have their own section, because most of them sell in the run-up to the holidays. Tables are booked through a form, and the site is in Czech and English.
The look
Katr comes from the same family as Demínka but feels younger. Instead of green and gold we went for black and white, with a rounded geometric logo that stretches across the whole facade in the opening photo.
The photos are warm evening shots: the lit terrace, glasses on the bar, food on a wooden table. The text sits right on top of them, so the page feels more like a walk through the restaurant than a flyer. That blend of ease and craft suits modern cooking with Czech roots.
The details
The top bar is black and lists its items in the same order as at Demínka: lunch menu, main menu, drinks, wine, gallery, vouchers and contact. Anyone who knows one restaurant can find their way around the other at once. On the right are links to Facebook and Instagram, where the restaurant shows what’s on the grill.
Each section about food has a prominent button to the main menu, so the dishes are only a click away from the text. The language is switched with a flag in the corner, which tourists walking over from Old Town Square appreciate. Vouchers have their own item in the bar, so anyone looking for a present doesn’t have to scroll through the whole long page to find them.
